Research & Policy
The John Howard Society of Ontario participates in a broad range of research activities that add to or enhance already existing programs and services and allow the Society to promote its mandate through the collection and dissemination of new knowledge. Research and Policy Development are important for the Society because:
Research and Policy Development produce knowledge about our clients, the Society, and the services that the John Howard Society of Ontario and affiliates offer,
Policy and Research can have an impact on or influence current legal and social practices at the provincial and national level,
Research advances new knowledge to the wider community, keeping people informed,
Research and the information it produces will help to inform policies which will promote effective, just, and humane responses to crime and its causes.
The Society works to disseminate information about current criminal justice policy issues to Ontario affiliates and the public, develop policy positions on current criminal justice policy issues, and advocate for the Society’s mission and policy positions to governments and organizations.
